WATERGARDENS

A statement sculpture commissioned by QIC for Watergardens Station Street entrance by Carla McRae, is complimented by two murals throughout the site.

"The birds speak to a freedom and spirited creativity; a positive trajectory. The large suns, arcing across the centre of the wall, create fluid, soft motion; a sense of time as an ongoing journey. The entry statement sculpture celebrates the key elements of the mural design. The sun, bird and plants coalesce in what appears to be a singular piece when viewed from the front or rear. However, as visitors move around the work the forms are revealed as individual panels, overlapping on gentle angles. Large and bold in palette, they are layered over each other, providing coherency with the murals throughout the shopping precinct. Both the internal and external designs comprise natural forms. Reaching upwards and leaning into one another, they are an allegory for the vision of the spirit of the West — connected, optimistic and ever-growing."
